Edwards County Volunteer Chaplains

The Edwards County Ministerial Asociation (ECMA) is always looking for the umet needs of our community.  One of the needs that we have seen among our Emergency Responders, is critical incident stress management.  Critical incident stress is any incident or traumatic event that causes emergency personnel to experience unusually strong emotional reactions which have the potential to interfere wit their ability to function either at the scene or later.  We have also found that this can apply to our businesses as well as private individuals and their families when traumatic events occur.

We at the ECMA wanted to try and meet this need but found ourselves untrained and unqualified to do so.  So we began looking for ways to be traned in this field.  We bagan training over a year ago with the International Conference of Police Chaplains the Kansas Highway Patrol, and the Federation of Fire Chaplains in the field of Critical Incident Stress Management.  This past year we have found oursleves being called on several times by the Edwards County Sheriffs Dept., EMS, Health Dept., and the Hospital.

Our desire is to further our trianing and be better equipped to meet these needs. Because this training is expensive, we are asking the community if they wcould help us with the cost.  We are opening this training to anyone, not just Pastors, and we don't want the cost to keep anyone from joining us.

Donations can be made to the ECMA for the Chaplains Program.  You can contact us if you have any questions at 620-253-7529.
