What Are We Doing About Duckwalls?
Edwards County Economic Development will be hosting a Community Meeting on Tuesday, January 11, at 7:00 PM at the City of Kinsley Meeting Room at 721 Marsh Ave.
The purpose of the meeting is to inform the public about progress that has been made by the Economic Development Office in finding a replacement for our Duckwall Store. “I have heard many rumors about the situation and I would prefer that the community receives accurate information about the subject rather than relying on the rumor mill,” said Linette Miller, Economic Development Director.
In addition, they would like to guage public interest in starting a non-affiliated variety store, Miller said. “Our community has a choice to make. We can continue to work on recruitment of another corporately owned store, however this may take some time to accomplish. Our other choices are for a local individual to start their own variety store, a group of local investors could put up the money to start a store, or we can look for individuals in neighboring communities that have non-affiliated variety stores who would be willing to open another store in our community,” she said.
The Economic Development Office has been working diligently toward finding a solution to this problem. “However, we need to find out what direction the community wants us to go,” Miller said.
